# #WORKIT CHALLENGE # motivation

Amanda's weight loss story

Hi Sweets,
Remember Amanda? The winner of the last weight loss challenge; #Workit. Ok, Many readers wanted to know how she got to lose all the weight during the challenge, well, she has shared her story. Here's exactly what she sent me, please read below.......

  • Who is Amanda?: Amanda is just a simple introverted lady... Someone u can regard as the girl next door.

  • When did I decide to lose weight?: Loool I've been trying to lose weight all my life cos I've always been chubby. Not fat tho. I've always had people tell me "u're ok the way u are " "u're not fat " etc etc. Truth is I've always wanted to but, I've been getting it wrong.. Took pills, danced, went to the gym, ate all the wrong things afterwards. After a while, I'd tell myself "after all, I'm not fat... Just wear the right clothes, accentuate ur assets, tuck in ur tummy, u'd be fine " but at the end of all these tuck here and there, when I'm faced with my body alone just the way it is, how does it make me feel? Not so happy. After marriage, I decided I was going to do this for my future. I learnt that the ideal weight to put on during pregnancy is between 11-16kg. Seeing what I weighed at the time, adding 16kg to it or even more. Due to d kinds of food we have here, scared the hell out of me. So I said after my honeymoon, I'd be serious with this. But I still wasn't able to.. It was hard. One day, from bellanaija comment section, I saw theshapecubeblog I clicked on it, I loved what I was seeing. July challenge came up, I was up and down on it. No change. August challenge came, I said this was my chance to make a change. Firstly, I STOPPED eating with my husband. This eating together thing was making me pack calories upon calories. I started reading about weight loss. I know all the weight loss blogs in Nigeria.. Loool. I researched a lot. I armed myself with knowledge. And then putting that knowledge to work was now the issue. The challenge started, I prayed about it, asked God to help me, my hubby was so supportive. He registered both of us in a gym on a one year plan. I bought my digital scale, gym clothes, changed my shopping list, no more cartons of fizzy drinks, or biscuits, my fridge was filled with veggies, fruits and water... There's still Bama and cheese though.. But that's for my hubby and I close my eyes to them. Loool.
Side view: before and after the challenge.

  • My start weight was 78.8kgs almost 79 hmmm. My goal weight is 60-62kg.
  • I haven't accomplished it but I'm well on my way. My initial goal was 70kg.. That seemed impossible but the moment I got to 72/73, I knew I could do it. I wanted more.. I decided I was going to push myself harder. I'm so excited about this upcoming challenge.. I've registered and getting myself ready. These past two weeks after the challenge has not been a good one for me. Kai I've been eating. I'd always say "lemme just eat this today, I'd start tomorrow ", no Cheliz to send my weight to on Saturday :( . Disciplining myself hasn't really been easy. Weight maintenance is even another work on its own. So I'm looking forward to Saturday. I used part of my price money to register for this upcoming challenge and buy new gym shoes and outfits. I'm so getting ready. Hope to get to my goal or even close enough by December.
  • It took me two months to lose 6.7kg.
  • Her start and finish weight for the #workit challenge.

  • Mhmm to the question lots of people where asking in the comment section... "Amanda how did u tone ur arms " simple answer diet and exercise. I changed my eating habit completely. I read how they'd say you should start my taking one fizzy drink a week, take less sugar, etc etc... Naaaah I completely eliminated fizzy drinks and sugar.. I didn't want to be doing it small small. Lool.  It was hard tho. But thank God for strength. So I went from eating things like this:
      to things like this:
And then in the gym, the cross trainer was and still is MY BESTFRIEND. Lol... The first time I started the gym,I wud always go to the treadmill but when I discovered the cross trainer... Lawd!!! The first day I used it, I thought I was going to die. I did 5mins, level 1. I was panting. Little by little, I grew on it. Yh its true that using a particular equipment at the gym can stall ur weightloss because ur body gets adapted to it. But when u go a little higher on that same machine, like ur pace, u'd see results (at least it worked for me)  so now I do level 5 and 6, maintaining a speed of  70-85 for 33 mins non-stop (I could take 6-10seconds to drink water twice) . The extra 3 mins is to cool down. I do the cooling down at level 1 or 2 at any speed I like. Again in using the cross trainer there are two handles. One where ur arms would be static, and the other ur arms are working. I always used the moving one (it would seem like ure boxing) ... That also helped the folds on my back. Even with the A.C in the gym on, I would be sweating alot!!!. So thats the ultimate arm secret. Lool.
  • My routine: in the mornings,I could either have 2 biscuits from weetabix and two tablespoons of peak milk, no sugar or quaker oats and half spoon of honey and a tablespoon of milk (less than 250 calories)  it was filling for me. These foods contain fibre. It makes me less hungry during the day. I could have a fruit whenever I feel like taking Something (not like I'm hungry) between 3-5 whenever I feel hungry, I would eat .. But my best foods where unripe plantain and vegetable, beans, okro, pepper soup and fish, Moi Moi, whenever it was rice, spag, yam, eba or anything high in carbs I would always be careful of the portions. But when it was vegetables, I didn't really care how much. 1 cup of vegetable contains about 14 calories so its really healthy. I didn't add oil to my vegetables and even my beans sometimes. At night I'd have a fruit. Most times I was eating less than 1000 calories (cos I wasn't even hungry). I didn't starve. and when I am hungry , I go for something healthy. When ure very hungry, and u decide to load on a plate of rice, oily stew and chicken or eba and egusi or something with plenty calories. U can actually make a healthier choice, which would also fill up ur tummy and also has less calories.
  • During the last two weeks of the challenge, I started going to the gym morning and evening. In this weightloss thing, I did alot of calculations. 1kg=3500 calories. If I want to lose 1kg in 4 days (coupled with eating clean), I burn 1000 calories each day at the gym. 500 morning, 500 evening, from Monday - Thursday. By Thursday evening, u'd have lost 1kg. Having to burn 500 calories using one equipment could be boring. So I use different equipments, on some days, I'm so fired up I can burn 700 in the morning, some other days, no energy, I'd just do 300. Just do whatever suits u.

  • Truthfully, I haven't been keeping to my fitness routine. Both the dieting and exercise.. I've really been relaxing. Also applying a little caution here and there though but not strict enough. I'm so scared to even go to the scale now. Loool.
  • What keeps me motivated, God's word, my hubby (sometimes oh, cos since this challenge ended, he's been tempting me. Lool) this blog, the people in this blog, thinking of my future and how I'd want to look like. Hearing or reading about people's weight loss stories.
  • I feel good about me. But it can be better. The experience has been a good one. I've learnt patience and tenacity. No matter the situation, don't give up, keep pushing. Yeah. I plan to lose more weight by going back to clean eating and exercising.

For people trying to lose weight. Including myself! It's not easy. But with God all things are possible. We can do it. All u have to do is make up ur mind. I've had people say.. "I can't do it, no time. " and I'm wondering, time for what, u just live ur life and lose weight in the process. What do u need extra time for?  U don't have to exercise or register in the gym. By eating clean, u'd stl lose weight. To avoid lose skin, u can buy workout DVD's.. Exercise from home, walk, skip, run through the stairs, etc. If u have time to watch tv,u have time to exercise. No more excuses. Nobody would get that body you want for you except you. Don't listen to people and how they'd say weightloss doesn't suit u...do what u think is best for you. Get the body u are comfortable in. You don't have to lose 4kgs in a month. 1kg a month would get you 12kgs in 12 months. It's better than doing nothing. The most important thing in weight loss is consistency. Even if u fall, get up and continue. We can do it. The October weightloss challenge is approaching. This is a great opportunity. To have someone to be accountable to is a huge blessing. Thanks alot Cheliz. You have been so instrumental in my weightloss journey and for a whole lot of people. God bless u dear.

  1. Thanks Amanda. After reading this piece I called my gym instructor to ask if there is one in the gym I use. I am pumped up and ready. Dearest cheliz before I met u I was a diet whore, trying different diets and not exercising. Now I feel sick if I don't exercise. This is the best thing that has happened to me this year. 4. Thanks Amanda for sharing your story with us on how you did it. You were really candid oh. And truthfully that's my problem too. I always say am not over weight what will over weight people say when I keep complaining, let be eat joor tomorrow I will start, tomorrow I will say abeg am not that fat after all people say if I lose wieght my boobs will be too big for my body So I should maintain my weight blah blah blah. I keep pushing it. Since I found cheliz blog in june it has been really motivating. I have lost 3kg and I know it would have been more. But because of inconsistency and lack of seriousness on my part I have been slacking. I have made up my mind that there is no going back for Me anymore. Am correctly not available as I am running a course and wouldn't be able to join this october fuel and burn challenge :( because I don't have the luxury of preparing my own meals my self as we are in a closed environment But I will be doing what I can on my own. And exercising regularly.
    Cheers.

    1. I love that you won't let the course slow you down Gifted. You can still eat cute portions and a balanced diet of what you are given, Most organised training will try to make sure you have all the fruits and veggies you need to stay nourished. When coupled with daily workouts you will continue to lose the weight. Stay strong dear.

    1. Wow! Congrats!! This doesnt mean you should throw away your good food or collect your gym money back na. Go ahead and eat healthy and nourish your baby but, keep in mind that you are no longer eating to lose weight, you are now eating to stay healthy and nourished (not necessarily for 2) If you have the strength, go to the gym and workout moderately. If you keep eating healthy and exercising while pregnant, you wont add much weight and delivery will be swift by the grace of God. Nothing spoil my dear, life must go on. Congrats again.

  8. great job amanda!!i totally feel you on the 'joining your husband to eat" habit,i had to totally stop and literally close my eyes to his meals even though i make them. living clean is truly discipline nothing else, and i was happy to find a restaurant that serves steamed fish and steamed veg so dats the only place we go now to eat..you did great and so is everyone on this journey…
