# Eat right # lemons and limes

Lemons versus Limes.

A comment from a reader actually triggered me to write this post, thanks to her. I just want to further explain the difference between limes and lemons.

Often times, people confuse limes with ,lemons. In fact not often, many times. Yes, Lemons are not so common here in Nigeria. When you find them, they look almost like limes when placed together. Our local Lemons are green and have a rough skin. While the foreign ones are bright yellow with smooth skin. Limes on the other hand are round, smaller in size and green in color, yellow when ripe.

FACTS ABOUT LIMES AND LEMONS.

  1. Limes contain less proteins than lemons.
  2. Lemons are lower in calories. 1 medium sized lime contains 20 calories while 1 medium sized lemon contains 17 calories.
  3. Lemons are higher in vitamin C. 100g of lemons contain 53mg of Vitamin C while 100g of limes contains 29.1mg of vitamin C which makes lemons to be high on demand.
  4. There share the same nutritional benefits.
  5. They contain antioxidants that help fight heart disease.
Lemons are higher in vitamin C which is almost 88% of our daily recommendation, aside other great benefits. No wonder the price of lemons are so high up there. I don't buy them always, i have a substitute 'lemon juice' that i use, but i try to use the real thing as often as i can.

I buy 4 lemons for about N1200 (@ shoprite) To be honest, i have never used limes during my weight loss, i use them only for fish dishes alone (yummy stuff). I get them for about N100 for 5 balls. that difference in price should tell you something. Lol.  I have a belly flush recipe which i call 'my morning flush' it works for me, and those that have tried it. You can only get the recipe if you have my meal plan, or subscribed to my food blog. www.thefoodcube,blogspot.com

Not that limes are bad for weight loss or general health, just that they contain less of (the goodness) what you find in Lemons. If you can source limes alone for now, then please carry on with it, but try from time to time and get some lemons into the mix. Some local markets sell them (the green lemons), my fruit lady gets them once in a while, she sells 1 ball for N50 which is awesome.

I hope this info helped you, please don't go mixing lemons and limes at once, use then 1 at a time. Don't load your stomach with excess acid. Always have some food after you take these acids. If you are prone to ulcer, please resist and desist. God bless.
Cheliz.

    1. Hahahaha! If only they knew! A tsp of lemon and a warm glass of water is enough to do the trick. Only those that have tried lemon water that can tell what they feel, you feel it working just within 24 hours. I think i have said this before, that if anything, lemons wash and detoxify the system every woman trying to conceive, except those that are prone to ulcer, should have a glass of lemon water daily. It will cleanse and detoxify your womb, unclog all the pipes that coke, sugar, meatpie and ice cream and shaki has blocked. It increases your cervical fluid and gets you ready for action. Same goes for men too, any husband that wants a baby should do this with his wife, it will increase the sperm and all, for more action in there. *runs away*

    1. Hey new reader. Welcome. Did the lime and lipton work for you? To answer your question, I had always been big so I didnt have much stretch marks except on my boobs, they started appearing on my waist during pregnancy. I have some visible ones now due to weight loss, on my inside upper arm. Yes shea butter could work to prevent more marks from coming up, and reduce the visibilty of the ones already there.Stretch marks are caused by a number of things. Maybe i should just put up a post on it. They can be prevented tho. Thats why pregnant ladies are advised to start using shea and other oils early on in pregnancy. I will put up a couple of anti stretch Mark rerecipes for u to try, I havent used them tho, mine doesnt really bother me thats why. Thanks.

    1. Hi Onyinye, sure lemon water is safe for you as long as you are not having heart burn. Its ok to lace your water with some lemon. Just don't over do it. Make sure you mix it with enough water and wash the lemon before cutting. cheers.
