Coffee versus weight loss.

Good morning dears and happy new week to y'all! This coffee issue is a controversial one. So whether it's good or bad for weight loss, you be the judge at the end of the day. I personally love coffee, I drink it at least 3 times a week. Not because it can be a weight loss aid, but because I just love the taste and the lift it gives me. Truth be told, initially it helped me shed some weight but, now I think my body has become resistant to it, so I basically take it for pleasure. There some advantages and disadvantages associated with coffee which I will highlight soon. I just want to say that if you are   Pregnant or nursing or you have heart problems, or are prone to migraines, please avoid coffee because it will only worsen your case.

Advantages of coffee:

  1. It curbs hunger, Makes one feel full so you don't have to eat too much thru the day. I like it especially on days when I have to be on the road and can't get any good food. I make my coffee in a travel mug and carry it in my car.
  2. It keeps me alert and awake, especially on busy days when I didn't get enough sleep. It kick starts my morning. Sometimes I take a small cup 30 mins before I start my workout just to give me an extra boost.
  3. Coffee contains antioxidants which can fight free radicals. (free radicals are molecules responsible for aging and tissue damage.)
  4. It's basically a zero calorie drink. A cup of coffee without sugar or creamer is about 5 calories.
  5. It contains caffeine which is a stimulant. Like I said earlier it helps you to be more active thereby leading to weight loss.

Disadvantages of coffee: 
  1. It contains chemicals that stimulate the production of cortisone and adrenaline. These chemicals can increase stress levels and cause insomnia. Cortisone has been linked to increase in abdominal fat. I would advise you to limit your consumption to 1 or 2 Cups a day and don't take it after 4 pm.
  2. It acts as a duretic (it will make you pee a lot) so you have to have as much water as you can when drinking coffee. I suggest about 1 cup of water after a cup of coffee.
  3. Too much coffee can lead to over eating. It triggered something in you to make you binge on sweets and high calorie foods. (I noticed this too, it happens to me sometimes but I try to fight it. Body no be fire soon na)

As with every other food when you are trying to lose weight, one has to take everything in moderation. In my opinion , moderate (1 cup a day, 2 to 3 times a week) consumption of coffee isn't bad at all especially if you don't add sugar and all those high calorie creamers. I add a satchet of sweetner (6calories) and a tea spoon of skimmed milk to mine. It has helped me shed some weight, it might help you too, i also hear coffee in its 'green state' aids weight loss more. (i didnt send you message o. Get fit or bounce out!

Now I'm going to be real, no need to be offended I'm only speaking the bitter and painful truth that most people (friends)won't want to tell you. Thank God you don't know my house address so i'm safe. Hahahaha!

Most of my friends don't know this, but the main reasons I made up my mind to lose weight were: 

Firstly, remember I told you it took me a year to get pregnant after I got married? Well, I didn't want to mention this earlier, but I know now that with the kind of comments I get from people, somebody will most definitely benefit from this. When I  started getting worried about not getting pregnant, I was advised by my doctor to go do a HSG ( Hysterosalpingography) test to determine if there was any blockage to my Fallopian tubes. Well yes, the result came out and they (my two tubes)were blocked. 2 of my friends even went to the lab with me that day. They really tried their best to keep me from being sad but I when I got home, I cried and cried like the world was coming to an end. God has really been faithful in my life o because the doctor asked me to go back and repeat the very painful procedure, but fear no gree me. I told myself that I will never do that test again and reassured myself that I have a God that won't fail me. Well, to His glory, I got pregnant 2 months later. You are wondering what this has to do with me losing weight? Keep reading.


Secondly, after I had my first baby I had serious pelvic pains that even had me limping if I sat down for long. It didn't really go away when I took in for my second baby, then it came back with full force after delivery. It was very painful, and when I complained to the doctors, they would tell me not to worry that it was nothing, and that it would stop after some time. As that one was going on, I was also having major joint pains especially my knee area. I was afraid it was arthritis. Guess what. Within 3 months of starting this journey, all the pain was gone and gone for good. Hmmmm.

Thirdly, I lost my elder brother in 2009 due to renal failure. My mum made us all change the way we ate food generally but I didn't understand why till later. Need I say more?

Lastly, this one is funny. After I had my second baby, I didn't have clothes anymore. I even borrowed my sis in laws maternity clothes because I couldn't just imagine my self going to buy humongous maternity clothes, I was too ashamed. So after delivery, to go out was a problem, because all my clothes didn't fit and my next size was a 24!! *screaming*

I considered all these things and mehn, i didn't want to reach the end of my road and my reason would be that i was too lazy to exercise, change my diet and be fit. My point in all this is that We really don't need a prophet to come and tell us 'it's time to lose wome weight' (even with the people that love to call us 'orobo'. we just need to look around and within and tell ourselves the bitter truth. You know what they say, better safe than sorry. You can turn around diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, arthritis etc just by:


  • Eat healthy
  • Exercise daily.
  •  Cut yourself from all forms of negativity, both in friends, food, movies etc. If you have friends that keep drawing you back by feeding you or enticing you with 'sin food' please quickly cut them off. If they form dead weights on your feet, shake them off fast and keep moving, you have a goal to achieve. When they see how serious you are, they dare not try it again. Trust me.
  • listen to motivational speakers or pastors that motivate you..
  • Stop watching horror movies . (don't laugh, I'm serious)
  • Read positive and soul lifting books. My best is 'the secret' a friend of mine(Sope) blessed me with the DVD some years ago. I can never forget what I learnt from it. Trust me it works.
  • Gossip? Hey!! Na you get your mouth.
  • Eat to live and not live to eat. Let food be your fuel and not your master.
I can go on and on for days, but you know who you are and you know that it is time for a change. Don't let the doctor be the one to tell you this. Get fit NOW!! It may seem hard at first but you will be happy later. I wish you well and God bless you. Please leave a comment. Thank you.

Nature versus Infertility

I know this topic will make Some hearts skip. I feel you, I have been there too. Some of the things I write is not because I know too much, or because I am a doctor (no i'm not a doctor), I write them from my own life experiences and because It gives me joy that at least one person will benefit from it.

I had my own dose of fear too. After I got married , I didn't get pregnant until after 1 year, and y'all know that in Igbo land that's a life time. Well (according to some people) you are expected to get pregnant and have a baby, all within your first year as a couple if not many eyes and tongues will start creeping up all over you biz(God pass dem). I thank God it eventually happened though not without days and days of prayers and fasting and since I heard that eating okro and snails were good for women looking to get pregnant, It became a daily diet for me o, I ate okro and snails like no man business. Hahaha!


Recently I heard stories of people being healed of diabetes, cancer, heart diseases etc just by changing their diet and exercising, so it occurred to me that infertility could also be reversed by eating healthy and exercising too. Yes, God heals defiantely, but we as humans must put in some effort too. As long as the root cause of this infertility doesn't need an operation, why not try out some natural remedy like:
1. Start Exercising (it doesn't have to be rigorous)
2. Stop smoking
3. Reduce alcohol
4. Eat snails
5. Semi ripe banana and unripe plantains too are said to help.
6. Groundnuts.
7. Honey
8. Carrots
9. Some people say pawpaw helps.
10. Cucumber
11. Get massages from time to time, you might just be stressed.

Personally, I think an all round diet and lifestyle change is key. It might take a few weeks to see results but with consistency and prayer, nothing is impossible for God.
Also it is advised to shed a bit of weight if you are overweight(both in men and women) this might just be the answer to that question you know. Please spread the word and if you have other helpful tips pls don't hesitate to share. But then again, At the end of the day, it is God who answers prayers and gives children. :)
P.s: I wrote this without anyone in mind, i just feel like someone will benefit from it.

Slowly but surely.

So it's been 33 weeks so far through my weight loss journey, It's been very hard. Very very very hard. Hmmmm I give all glory to God almighty for seeing me through, for strength and for grace.  Its good we share our progress with our team mates, gym bodies etc because it's a source of motivation, weather you lost any weight or not, and it helps you identify your weaknesses, find a solution and move ahead. 

People have different opinions about when to weigh in, but I like to check mine every 2 or 3 days or at the most, every week. It helps me keep tabs on myself and I know when to put in more effort in my workouts. So, I opened this month (September) at 83.7kg, two weeks ago I weighed 82.7kg, i lost 1.5kg and weighed 81.2kg  as at last monday, i checked today and i added 0.2kg. I weigh 81.4kg today. I have lost a total of 2.3kg this month and a total of 28.5kg since I started this journey, to God be the glory.
This is me today at 81.4kg.

 There are times when you won't see a difference on the scale, Sometimes people will try to drag you back or make you cheat on your meals. Don't let that stop you, keep moving, keep digging. Remember the story of 'the tortoise and the hare'.....Slow and steady wins the race. Lets Master a healthy lifestyle and there's no going back. Take care and God bless.

Fruits in season this September_Pawpaw.

There are a number of fruits in season this period, but I want to focus on just one, that's the Pawpaw. I love this fruit so much that I eat it almost every day since it came fully in season, and Yes i eat it almost every day. It has a lot of benefits but I want to share my own experience with it first.

The first time I noticed the goodness of this fruit was when I was breast feeding, and I had just started my weight loss journey. It always made me fell really full and helped cleanse my system, plus the nutritional benefits in breast milk.  So now I started eating it again, I noticed that it helps get rid of gass in my tummy and gives me that flat tummy feel after I wake up and have had a good poop. (sorry I don't know how else to define poop) Lol. Ehen, so what I do every 2 to 3 days (especially on days where I ate too many carbs)for cleansing is that I get a whole pawpaw, nice and ripe ( not too ripe tho) cut it up and divide into 2 equal parts. I put the other part in the fridge. I eat one part with some pineapples for breakfast, and the other part, I will have as my dinner with an apple. The next morning come and see wonders! Besides the cleansing, I really love the refreshing taste and smoothness of the fruit. You can have yours with water melon if you want, they are great for weightloss.


Aside from being  a weight loss super fruit, here are some other benefits ofthe pawpaw.

Keeping fit and eating right while pregnant.

I am writing about this because some of my readers and pregnant friends asked me to though, I have been hesitant because you know now, I no be doctor. Well I guess I could offer a few tips even though I never exercised or ate healthy while I was pregnant. All I knew was that my mum always made me eat fruits and vegetables. I knew deep down in my soul that it was good for my me and my baby, but you know now, when you are pregnant there is no time to think or arrange food.....you 'eat as you go' . Lol.

To the glory of God, i have 2 kids, so I guess I am a bit experienced abi? I definitely have a different mind set now, because when I get pregnant again, I will do things differently. For example, I would walk more, eat loads and loads of fruits, loads and loads of vegetables and get loads of rest too. And then avoid some things like wearing heels (stop eyeing those Hollywood celebs), drinking coke/sugar (Chichi bones take note), eating lots of fried foods and pastries. (yumm!! :))

And who says you can't exercise while pregnant, sure you can (at least now I know). There are lots of exercises which a pregnant lady can do like walking, jogging, swimming, dancing, squats, yoga etc. These exercises help to strengthen the pelvis muscles, the abdominal muscles and the chest, to aid breathing, sleeping and even pushing when baby is ready to come. I remember when I was pregnant with my first and at 40 weeks the baby hadn't come, so one day I got up from my couch at about 12noon and decided to go out for a walk in the hot sun. I told myself that this baby must come today 'by fire by force' so I walked and walked and walked thru my estate. By the time I got home I was drenched in sweat and then helped myself to a bowl of cold watermelon. When I say bowl I mean 'basin' hahahaha! Guess what? The baby came that night and I had a short and painless labour of just 4 hours. Praise God! Imagine that, that was the one and only time i realy exercised my legs during that pregnancy.Truth is that the more active you are during pregnancy, the easier it will be for you to adapt to your changing shape and weight gain. It will also help you cope with labour and get get back into shape after birth.


So come on mamas, get up and get going, don't sit around much. Exercising won't hurt your baby if you are healthy and having a perfect pregnancy. After all said and done, our lives and our babies are in Gods hands, He is the one that keeps us and protects us, the best we can do is to take care of ourselves, pray and He will do the rest. More success stories.....

Morning sweets, I promised you that I will post some pics of my friends that have been doing well in their weight loss journey, they are my source of inspiration. (I'm a human being too, i need ginger na) they have lost huge amount of weight and I am soo proud of them. Here they are:

1. My dearest Ify. 
I must tell you, this babe is awesome. she's a new mum. She started by doing my 'one week detox meal plan' and then moved up to the 'fat loss diet'. She has lost 13kgs so far. She started her journey in May @ 104.1kg and now she weighs 90.4kg. She still has 15kgs to go. I know she can do it, because she has changed her lifestyle, she eats healthy and exercises on a daily basis. Hot mama coming right up! You go girl!

2. Beautiful Uche
has lost 12kg so far and has 3 kgs more to go. She says it wasn't easy, I believe her gbam! Its not a small sometin. I must congratulate u babe, u have done a good job. She started 5 months ago @ 80kg, now she weighs 68kg just by eating right and exercising daily. Uche did loads of insanity workout which is one of the toughest workouts out there. She also used part of my meal plan. Lol. Keep it up girl! 

3. My darling Zinny

 has lost a total of 14 kg so far. She started at 93kg back in June and now weighs 79kg. She started with my 'detox meal plan' and now she has mastered the art of portion control.  She's a very busy mum of 2 lovely kids , yet she fins time to work out at home everyday. She still has about 10 kg more to work on, and i trust she will achieve her goal in Jesus name. I am so proud of you Zinny you have done well, pls keep it up. 

So my sweets, it's very possible to lose weight through healthy eating and keep it off for good, even after child birth. Stop giving excuses, no matter how busy you are. I always tell people that if you can find time to lounge and eat in front of the tv after work, then you can find time to squeeze in 25 mins of workout. Imagine yourself in those sexy jeans and fitted tops, or even hot short like I do *wink* lol. (it helps o)?It may not show that the kgs are dropping in the first week, but I promise if you keep working hard at it, it will show in the first month. If you can't go to the gym, order workout DVDs from me and do them in the comfort of your sitting room. It is well. Take care and God bless.

My new found love.....Quail eggs.

Hey sweets, I came across this super food some weeks ago when i was watching a show on tv, and they talked about Gwyneth Paltrow and how she eats quail eggs for good living, so I quickly stole the idea and couldn't help but share. I decided to use myself as the 'guinea pig' before I give the verdict. Lol. They are called quail eggs. I am sure some of you have heard and tried them. They taste great and cook in 4 mins. I always had mine for breakfast with a slice of toast. 1 egg contains about 14calories and has 13percent proteins. The nutritional value is 4 times greater than that of chicken eggs. I can't really say if it made me healthier or stronger o, I'm not sure. Another thing is that I wasn't consistent with it because it has a specific number that you are meant to eat for a specific period of time and I didn't follow it through. I want to try it again the correct way (see the tables below), that's why I decided to share with you maybe we can do this together. My latest pics. Been a while....

Yes o, its been a while but i'm back now. So sorry for going awol on you guys. I had a lot on my hands and i will try to stay 'put' this time. Anyway, how have you guys been, i missed you o.

So the last time i shared my weight in august, i weighed about 87kg, well i have lost about 5kgs since then. As at last Monday, i weighed 82.7kg. From now on, i will share a picture of what i weigh on a scale. I don't even know why i wasn't doing that. What i did to lose more last month was that i put in more effort because I noticed I wasn't losing much anymore, So i intensified my workouts....i did loads of HIIT and increased my workout time, i also reduced my daily calorie intake by about 200cals. I can honestly say that it has paid off. I hope to continue this way and loose an extra 4kg this month. Later on you will find some of my before and after/recent pics you be the judge. Later on in the week, i will feature some of my friends that have been doing well with their weight loss and have dropped a huge amount of kgs. See guys, loosing weight isnt just about wearing fab clothes, its also about feeling good about yourself, feeling accomplished in a way, good health, better memory, self confidence, sleeping well at night etc. Some people keep telling me to take it easy so as not to get too skinny, well i get that they mean well but the point is that, it has become a lifestyle for me and not just about weight loss. Eating healthy and exercising has made me a better person generally, so why stop? When i get to my ideal weight (74kg), i will still keep eating healthy and exercising, the only difference will be that i will no longer reduce my calorie intake to loose weight. When you master the 'art' of weight loss and wellness, you can eat 2 cups of Icecream and not fret, because you know that you have conditioned your body not to store fat of any kind. You will burn it off within 24hrs. Hahaha!
